In the old days, when traders, travellers and families visited bustling towns and cities across India, small eateries served a simple yet essential purpose — offering fresh, wholesome and delicious meals away from home. Known as Upahar Gruhas, Khanavals and Bhavans, these humble establishments became an integral part of Maharashtra’s food culture. With their homely atmosphere, simple menus, quality ingredients and time-honoured recipes, many of them continue to thrive even today.
At these establishments, the focus was never on extravagant décor or elaborate ambience. It was always about the food — its quality, its authenticity and the comforting feeling of a home-cooked meal.
Over time, as the restaurant industry evolved and competition grew, many traditional recipes and flavours gradually began to change. At Hind Bhuvan, we wanted to bring back the authentic tastes that generations grew up enjoying.
Founded by Amar Deshmukh and Sanket Indalkar, with the guidance of Chhatra Hospitality, Hind Bhuvan was born out of a passion for preserving Maharashtra’s traditional culinary heritage. We went back to our roots, sought inspiration from the wisdom of our mothers and grandmothers, and conducted numerous trials to recreate the distinctive flavours of rural Satara, Maharashtra.
Every detail matters to us. How should a perfectly cooked mutton dish taste? What gives a traditional curry its rich, balanced flavour? How do you make a bhakri that opens up into beautiful layers? What makes authentic Indrayani rice, sourced directly from farmers, taste exceptional when paired with pure ghee? How should a traditional rassa balance its consistency and spice? And, of course, what makes a true Gavran Kombada special?
These are not just questions in our kitchen; they are the little experiments, traditions and details that define our food.
From carefully selected ingredients and traditional masalas to recipes perfected through repeated trials, every effort goes into bringing you the familiar, soulful flavours of rural Maharashtra.
We chose the name Hind Bhuvan deliberately — as a tribute to the traditional Bhavans and Khanavals of the past, where good food, simplicity and warmth mattered more than anything else.
Today, at Hind Bhuvan, Wakad, we invite you to experience this culinary heritage for yourself. Whether you join us for a hearty Maharashtrian thali, savour our signature mutton preparations or discover the distinctive taste of our Gavran Kombada Cooker, we want every meal to remind you of something special — the taste of tradition, the comfort of home and the joy of authentic food.
Hind Bhuvan is not just a place to eat. It is an experience rooted in tradition, crafted with care and served with pride.
We look forward to welcoming you and sharing the timeless flavours of rural Maharashtra with you.
